*dear to my heart*

This is my favorite poem of all time, which is difficult for me to say since I was named after Elizabeth Barrett Browning and this is DEFINITELY not her work. I've loved this poem since the first time I heard it from the movie In Her Shoes. Incredible movie about sisters (which I know plenty about) and a great message. This poem was read at the end and brought me to tears. To my delight, we ended up singing a song based on this poem in Patriot Singers last semester. It was hands-down one of the most beautiful things I've ever sung in my life. So here is it for you. There is no melody (or harmony) but use your imagination and see what it sounds like to you.

i carry your heart
i carry it in my heart
i am never without it
anywhere i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling
i fear no fate
for you are my fate, my sweet
i want no world
for beautiful you are my world, my true
and its you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart
i carry it in my heart
